On February 10th, according to the Russian News Agency, the spokesperson of the Russian Interior Ministry, Irina Volk, stated that the police had dismantled an illegal e-cigarette oil production site in the Moscow region, seizing goods worth nearly 1 billion rubles (approximately 89 million yuan) and detaining six related suspects.
Spokesperson Volk said, "In the Moscow region, my colleagues dismantled an underground factory that produced e-cigarette oil. This factory did not have the license to produce these products. The six suspects were detained for illegally manufacturing unlabelled nicotine-containing products in an unsophisticated manner."
Local investigators confirmed that the suspects organized large-scale e-cigarette oil production activities without obtaining the necessary permits. The underground factory operated 24 hours a day, with a production output of up to 75,000 pieces per shift, and the finished products were transported to warehouses or directly shipped to various parts of Russia by freight companies.
The spokesperson added that during 20 searches of the residences, warehouses and offices of the detained individuals in the Moscow region, four production lines, 600,000 reusable electronic cigarettes, containers, various components used for preparing e-liquid, and over 2 million rubles in cash and approximately 400,000 US dollars in cash were discovered. "The value of the seized goods is close to 1 billion rubles," Volk pointed out.
At present, the Russian police have filed charges for fraud, production, storage, transportation or sale of unlabeled goods, etc. Six people have been arrested, among whom five have been detained for trial and another one has been placed under house arrest.
