According to the news report of the Philippine News Agency on November 22:
The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) has proposed a national ban on vaping, stating that e-cigarettes and their fumes pose serious health risks. The DOH pointed out that e-cigarettes contain harmful chemicals and are associated with lung diseases, heart problems, and cancer. Criticism of e-cigarettes being "marketed as safer or nicotine-free" is noted, but "both the devices and the smoke themselves are harmful." The diverse flavors and eye-catching packaging attract teenagers, significantly increasing the risk. According to the 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey, 7 out of 10 Filipino teenagers aged 13-15 have tried vaping. The Philippines has witnessed its first case of death related to e-cigarettes. The DOH is collaborating with international organizations (WHO FCTC) and promoting public health awareness in schools and communities.
