According to GMA NEWS: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of the Philippines seized a total of 800 products worth 250,000 pesos of smuggled and unregistered electronic cigarettes and e-liquids at two stores in Manila.
Source of the operation: This law enforcement action originated from the NBI's surveillance and test-buy operations.
Safety risk warning: The head of the NBI's dangerous drugs department pointed out that the electronic cigarette devices involved could be secretly modified to carry cannabinoids or other dangerous chemicals, making parents mistakenly believe that their children were just "using electronic cigarettes", while in reality they might be exposed to drugs.
Not compliant with regulations: These products were not registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), meaning they did not pass safety and quality inspections.
Details of the involved parties: The store owner has not responded yet; an employee has been detained, and the involved parties will face multiple charges under the "Electronic Cigarette Regulation Law" and the "Consumer Law".
Ongoing follow-up: GMA NEWS is contacting the detained employee to obtain more information.
