Written statement from the Welsh government: The ban on disposable electronic cigarettes will come into effect in June 2025

The official website of the Welsh government in the UK has released a written statement stating that the use of disposable electronic cigarettes will be banned from June 2025 to reduce plastic pollution and environmental hazards. This move is in collaboration with other regions in the UK to ensure consistent implementation of the ban throughout the country.

On October 22, the official website of the Welsh government in the UK released a statement stating that the use of disposable electronic cigarettes will be banned from June 2025, in order to address plastic pollution and reduce environmental harm.

Huw Iranca Davies, Deputy Minister for Climate Change and Rural Affairs and Cabinet Secretary of Wales, announced this new regulation in a written statement, confirming that the Environmental Protection (Disposable Electronic Cigarettes) (Wales) Regulations 2024 will come into effect next year.

The regulation was first proposed in April 2024 and was consulted and revised after receiving feedback from stakeholders. The Welsh government works closely with the UK government and local governments in Scotland and Northern Ireland to ensure that the ban is implemented in a consistent and coordinated manner across the UK, thereby promoting a high level of compliance.

The Deputy Minister confirmed that the ban will officially come into effect on June 1, 2025. By unifying the implementation date across the UK, the government aims to ensure the smooth implementation of the ban and address the environmental challenges posed by disposable electronic cigarettes in a unified manner.

In February of this year, the Scottish government announced that it would ban disposable electronic cigarettes by April 1, 2025.
