UK Parliament forms cross party e-cigarette group to conduct two month industry survey

Members of the UK Parliament have formed a bipartisan group on e-cigarettes to launch a two month industry survey on the role of e-cigarettes in the UK, including discussions on the public health, environmental, economic impact, and government legislative measures of e-cigarettes. The survey results will provide legislative recommendations for the Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Act.
According to Talking Retail, members of parliament from various political factions in the UK will jointly form the Electronic Cigarette Cross Party Group (APPG). The group will continue to speak out in parliament on issues related to electronic cigarettes and has initiated an investigation into the role of electronic cigarettes in the UK.
This survey will be conducted over the next two months, with plans to collect evidence and insights from experts in various fields. The team will focus on discussing the industry's responsibility in addressing key issues related to electronic cigarettes. The topics of discussion will include public health benefits, environmental and economic impacts, as well as government proposed legislative measures such as taste, packaging, display, taxation, and bans on certain electronic cigarette products.
The survey results will form a report and provide a thematic analysis of the government's proposed measures aimed at better regulating the e-cigarette industry, including a new e-cigarette tax to be implemented from 2026, possible taste restrictions, and a ban on disposable e-cigarettes. The report will also provide practical and legislative recommendations on electronic cigarettes.
The chairperson of the group, Mary Glindon, stated that,
The bipartisan group on electronic cigarettes has always been a focal point of the e-cigarette issue in parliament, and I am pleased to see this group re established with bipartisan support
I encourage all those interested in electronic cigarettes to respond to the evidence collection initiated by APPG today regarding the role of electronic cigarettes and proposed government regulations
It is crucial to gather experts from various fields to address key issues related to electronic cigarettes. We urge the government to work closely with APPG in the coming months to ensure that the system we ultimately establish is fair and balanced, while not jeopardizing the many benefits that electronic cigarettes bring. I look forward to seeing the results of the investigation, especially in encouraging industry led improvements and proposing practical legislative recommendations before the upcoming Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Act
