UK Ban On Disposable E-cigarettes To Boost Black Market By £645m

UK ban on disposable e-cigarettes to boost black market by £645m

The Association of British Convenience Stores (ACS) said that if the ban is officially implemented next year, the black market for disposable e-cigarettes will become more prosperous, and the illegal trade may increase by 645 million pounds.

The British government will ban disposable e-cigarettes from April 1, 2025. The Association of British Convenience Stores (ACS) stated that the government should focus on effective law enforcement in the future to deal with the large-scale illegal trade of e-cigarettes. Because if the ban is officially implemented next year, the black market for disposable e-cigarettes will become more prosperous, and the illegal trade may increase by 645 million pounds.

Consumer polling of existing e-cigarette users shows that nearly a quarter (24%) of consumers will continue to use disposable e-cigarettes after the ban. Their only way to obtain these products is the black market, and the turnover of disposable e-cigarettes alone will cause the convenience store industry to lose 645 million pounds a year.

The ACS chief executive said: "Banning something doesn't mean it no longer exists, and if the government is truly committed to stopping children getting access to disposable e-cigarettes then they should focus on cracking down on illegal trade and enforce Existing laws prevent children from coming into contact with these products."

ACS is encouraging local retailers to contact their MPs to highlight their concerns about the ban on disposable e-cigarettes and the impact it will have on their business.
