According to Vaping360 on November 15th, newly elected US President Donald Trump announced the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Trump posted on X stating that,

"For a long time, American public health has been seriously challenged by the misleading and cheating of the industrial food industry and pharmaceutical companies. Protecting the safety and health of all Americans is the primary responsibility of every government. HHS will play a key role in ensuring that the public is free from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, drugs and food additives. As the leader of HHS, Kennedy will oversee the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) responsible for regulating electronic cigarettes, nicotine, and tobacco products.

In March 2021, Kennedy posted an article on his Facebook page criticizing British American Tobacco (BAT) for selling e-cigarettes and smokeless nicotine products to children. Besides, there seems to be little evidence to suggest Kennedy's views on tobacco regulation, so it is currently unclear what Kennedy's position is on e-cigarettes, nicotine, and tobacco harm reduction (THR).

During the presidential campaign, Trump promised to 'save e-cigarettes' if elected.

As the Secretary of Health and Human Services, if approved by the Senate, Kennedy will also manage the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) responsible for most of the public healthcare programs. The budget of HHS exceeds $1 trillion.

Trump said in his victory speech,

He wants to do something, we'll let him do it. Have fun, Bobby

Kennedy, who is 70 years old this year, is the son of former Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy. Both are iconic figures of the Democratic Party. As a senior environmental activist and lawyer, Kennedy first ran for president as a Democrat, then as an independent, but later withdrew and supported Trump in exchange for influence on health and agricultural policies during Trump's second term.

Trump said he would allow Kennedy to "take a gamble on health policy," and Kennedy is known for his views on vaccines causing autism. He stated that the new Trump administration will oppose the addition of fluoride to drinking water, ban certain foods and additives, and advocate for drinking unpasteurized "raw" milk, which has been proven to be associated with E. coli.

Kennedy will face a Senate confirmation hearing after Trump is sworn in as president at the end of January next year.
