The US Customs Authorities Seized 43,200 Illegal Electronic Cigarettes in Chicago.

Recently, officials from the US Customs and Border Protection Agency seized a batch of illegal e-cigarette products in Chicago. These products violated the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
At the central inspection station near Chicago International Airport, when law enforcement officers inspected a batch of goods, they found 144 cardboard boxes containing 43,200 pieces of e-cigarette products that were not declared on the shipping documents.
After being identified by officials from the US Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these products did not obtain the market access approval required by the FDA and had evaded customs duties and import supervision by seriously underreporting the value of the goods. They have been seized in accordance with the relevant laws.
The officials stated that this batch of electronic cigarettes originated from China, with an estimated total value of over 358,000 US dollars. The destination of the shipment was an address in Mississippi. These electronic cigarettes will be handed over to the US Customs' Fine and Forfeiture Processing Office for final disposal.
The director of the Chicago Field Operations Office, Raffenda Sutton-Burke, said: "Our law enforcement officers have always been committed to intercepting such illegal goods that may endanger the health and safety of the community. The trade enforcement actions of the US Customs and Border Protection focus on cracking down on illegal products. We will continue to collaborate with consumer product safety partners to seize unsafe and illegal goods."
As of now, the US FDA has only approved 39 types of electronic cigarette products for legal sale in the US market.
