The UK May Become The Third Country To Lift The GEG Generation Smoking Ban

The UK may become the third country to lift the GEG generation smoking ban

According to foreign media reports, the British government may cancel the plan to implement a generational tobacco ban, becoming the third country after New Zealand and Malaysia to cancel the GEG generational smoking ban and instead raise the legal smoking age to 21 years old.

According to Tobacco Insider, the UK may choose to raise the legal smoking age rather than stick with plans for a generational tobacco ban (children under 14 will never be able to legally buy cigarettes in 2023 or later). Public consultation on the plans under the proposed regulations ended on December 6. It is reported that many liberal members of Congress do not like the government restricting people's choices.

Until recently, New Zealand and Malaysia also canceled similar generational tobacco ban plans.

Meanwhile, the British government has laid out plans to tax e-cigarettes and tighten restrictions to curb vaping among young people. Proposals under consideration include:

Tobacco or tobacco and menthol flavors only

Banned from display in stores, so e-cigarettes remain hidden, as is the case with cigarettes

Introduce plain packaging and stop using cartoons and animal images

Disposable e-cigarettes banned

VAT already applies to e-cigarettes, but a new tax is also proposed to make e-cigarettes more expensive.
