South Australia Has Taken Strong Measures To Crack Down On Illegal Tobacco And E-cigarettes. The Store Closure Operation Has Led To The Seizure Of 71 Stores And The Confiscation Of 4.2 Million Australian Dollars Worth Of Products.

According to a report by Miragenews on October 2nd: The South Australian state government recently announced the results of the "Operation Shutdown" initiative, showing that the state continues to maintain a national leadership position in the fight against illegal tobacco and e-cigarettes.
Since the new regulations came into effect on June 5th, the authorities have issued closure orders to 71 illegal tobacco and e-cigarette selling stores and seized products worth over 4.2 million Australian dollars. Since the launch of "Operation Shutdown", law enforcement agencies have seized: 3,376,290 illegal cigarettes, 10,667 e-cigarettes, and 1.1 tons of loose tobacco.
Joint efforts by multiple departments and strengthened cross-state collaboration. This operation was led by the South Australian Consumer and Business Services Bureau (CBS). Over the past four years, the Australian Customs has increased the number of illegal cigarettes seized at the border by 320%.
The federal government has invested over 345 million Australian dollars since January 2024 to strengthen national law enforcement and border supervision.
