Italy extends e-cigarette sales authorization to four years, nicotine product online sales ban to take effect

The Italian Minister of Finance announced that from January 1, 2025, the sales authorization period for e-liquid and processed tobacco will be extended from two years to four years, and online sales of nicotine containing products will be prohibited. The regulations for online sales of nicotine free products are still unclear.

 

According to Sigmagazine on October 16th, Italian Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti announced at a press conference on the year-end fiscal plan that the sales authorization period for e-cigarette e-liquid and processed tobacco will be extended from two years to four years.

 

According to the new regulations, starting from January 1, 2025, all sales authorizations issued after January will have a validity period of four years, while authorizations expiring in December will be renewed for two years.

 

In addition, the Italian e-cigarette industry will continue to undergo reforms. Starting from 2025, online sales of nicotine containing products will be prohibited, except for the extension of authorization periods. The issue of online sales of nicotine free products is still unclear and may be further clarified by customs and the National Monopoly Administration (Agenzia Dogane e Monopoly).
