Costa Rica Proposal To Completely Ban E-cigarettes: Covering Import, Sale, Use And Manufacture

According to The Tico Times: A lawmaker from the ruling party in Costa Rica has proposed a bill to completely ban electronic cigarettes and related products, including their import, sale, use and manufacture, citing the rising usage among teenagers and the increased health risks. This proposal would repeal the current regulatory laws, but it has also raised concerns: A complete ban combined with weak law enforcement capabilities could lead to a further expansion of the black market.
Key points: The ruling party lawmaker has proposed a bill to completely ban electronic cigarettes, nicotine-free devices, and heated non-combustible products. The Ministry of Health has recorded 25 cases of poisoning related to electronic cigarettes this year, most of them involving teenagers aged 10-17. Experts warn that a complete ban could stimulate the black market and allow more dangerous products to enter the market. If passed, Costa Rica will join the ranks of several Latin American countries that have already completely banned electronic cigarettes.
