New Zealand's Ban On Disposable E-cigarettes Comes Into Effect.

Starting from June 17, 2025, New Zealand officially banned the distribution, production, sale and supply of disposable electronic cigarettes.
The deputy minister of health stated that prohibiting the type of electronic cigarettes most popular among young people is a step forward. The 2023/24 New Zealand Health Survey showed that 10.5% of the 15-17-year-old population used electronic cigarettes every day. Additionally, it is estimated that removing disposable electronic cigarettes from the market could reduce electronic waste related to electronic cigarettes by more than 80%.
Critics pointed out that the surge in black market activities and the emergence of large-capacity, rechargeable disposable electronic cigarettes may affect the effectiveness of the one-time ban.
New advertising rules have also come into effect. Electronic cigarette devices, products and packaging must no longer be displayed in ordinary retail stores. Electronic cigarette stores (specialized stores) are not allowed to display products in any way so that they can be visible outside the business premises. These restrictions include advertising, display on online stores and vending machines.
Electronic cigarette stores are also prohibited from posting advertisements or posts about electronic cigarette products on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Google Business Lists. Electronic cigarette stores can no longer use promotional methods (such as product giveaways, discounts, reward points, cash back, gifts, games and lotteries) to promote electronic cigarette products. Violators may face a penalty of 2000 New Zealand dollars (1200 US dollars) for non-compliance.
Open and refillable electronic cigarettes will continue to be sold in New Zealand - currently, New Zealand is the only country in the world where the number of electronic cigarette users exceeds the number of smokers.
