According to Australian News Network, e-cigarettes will be re-legalized and regulated under the leadership of the coalition government.
The coalition government has confirmed that retailers other than pharmacies will be allowed to legally sell e-cigarettes.
According to cost calculations, the new tax on e-cigarettes will increase revenue by 3.6 billion US dollars in four years.
Treasurer Angus Taylor said that this change will target the income of organized crime in the black market and reduce the appeal of e-cigarettes to young people.
This is the third major tax cut measure proposed by the coalition party, which will be achieved through a tax of 1 US dollar per milliliter.
Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor said at the afternoon briefing that this "is not a new policy" and insisted that it would not normalize e-cigarette use.
He said that instead, this change would combat organized crime and eliminate the e-cigarette black market.
He said, "Criminal organizations and gangs have already imposed huge e-cigarette taxes on Australians."
"We would rather have a properly regulated industry and have the government collect taxes, thereby benefiting taxpayers."
He said that higher e-cigarette prices would deter young Australians from trying e-cigarettes and stated, "We don't want young people to adopt this thing."
"We want to ensure that people think carefully before doing something."
