British American Tobacco undertakes Global Tobacco Science Conference, promises to invest in new tobacco products to promote harm reduction

British American Tobacco is hosting the Global Tobacco and Related Products Science Conference in the UK to promote tobacco harm reduction and call for global scientific cooperation. BAT has stated that it will continue to invest in the development of new tobacco products and is committed to the development of smoke-free alternatives.
On October 17th, the official website of British American Tobacco (BAT) released a press release stating that the Global Conference on Tobacco and Related Products Science (CORESTA) was successfully held from October 13th to 17th at the Edinburgh International Convention Centre. The event was hosted by BAT and featured 500 representatives from over 30 countries, including businesses, research institutions, laboratories, associations, and regulatory agencies, discussing the prospects of reducing tobacco harm.
The theme of this conference is "Promoting Tobacco Harm Reduction through Scientific Cooperation", focusing on how to create smoke-free alternatives for billions of smokers. The conference not only promotes international dialogue on scientific research related to tobacco and nicotine, but also showcases the research achievements and findings of CORESTA members, providing important support for the transition from combustible tobacco to smoke-free alternatives.
At the opening ceremony, Danni Tower, Group Head of BAT's Science and Regulatory Affairs Department, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing BAT's progress in advancing the tobacco harm reduction agenda. She mentioned that scientific collaboration is crucial for expanding public awareness and acceptance of tobacco harm reduction, and emphasized BAT's commitment to sharing and exchanging world-class scientific research.
To achieve this goal, as discussed this week, the fields of science and regulation require more open dialogue. Therefore, we have recently launched Omni ™-- Providing wise thinking for a smoke-free world - this is an open, evidence-based platform based on leading scientific research
Other keynote speakers at the conference include global health advocate Derek Yach, who gave a speech on "The new generation of products requires a new generation of science and regulation",
The speech at the CORESTA conference showcased the scientific progress in using new methods to accelerate tobacco harm reduction. These progress topics range from the application of genomics in agricultural science, to the development of biomarkers in practical research, and the application of artificial intelligence tools in advancing our understanding of the causes and effects of interventions. All public health institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO), should collaborate with CORESTA scientists to accelerate change
BAT stated that the CORESTA conference is just another example of its commitment to promoting public health benefits of reducing tobacco harm globally. The company continues to invest in the development of new tobacco products (NGPs) supported by top scientific research and high standard products, aimed at laying the foundation for a smoke-free world.
