According to a report by Tobacco Journalist News on November 4th:
The Ministry of Health of Bhutan has announced a major financial crackdown on e-cigarettes, imposing a 115% comprehensive tax on e-cigarette products, which includes 100% consumption tax, 10% customs duty, and 5% goods and services tax (GST). All these taxes will come into effect on January 1, 2026. E-cigarette devices, in addition to customs duty and goods and services tax, will also face a 20% consumption tax.
The Ministry of Health stated that this move is aimed at curbing the increasing trend of teenagers using e-cigarettes and integrating e-cigarette products with traditional tobacco products into the national regulatory framework. The "Tobacco Control Regulations" and the "Tobacco Control Law" are also being updated to clearly cover e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and heated tobacco products.
The government continues to enforce the ban on advertising, promotion, and sponsorship of all tobacco and nicotine products.
