Belgium: 140,000 Disposable Electronic Cigarettes Were Seized Over A Period Of 25 Years

According to a report by VRT News on December 30th, the Belgian Federal Health Ministry has announced that since the one-time electronic cigarette ban came into effect on January 1st, 2025, a total of 140,019 single-use electronic cigarettes have been seized across the country. Law enforcement officers have conducted nearly 2,400 inspections, and illegal products have been found in over 25% of retail stores. 600 cases of illegal sales have been filed, and 18 stores have been forcibly closed.
In key areas, the violation rate in Brussels is as high as 60%, while in the Flanders region it is approximately one-fifth. The maximum penalty for non-compliant merchants can be 120,000 euros, and they may also face temporary closure penalties.
Under the one-time electronic cigarette ban, the enforcement intensity in Belgium has continued to increase, and the compliance pressure on the retail sector has significantly risen.
