Malaysia Sports Ministry: No funding for sports activities sponsored by tobacco and e-cigarettes

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia announced that no grants will be approved through the Sports Matching Grant or Community Sports Fund if tobacco companies, e-cigarettes and alcohol are involved, and related activities will be cancelled upon discovery.
According to Malaymail on July 10, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) of Malaysia announced that no grants will be approved through the Sports Matching Grant (GPS) or Community Sports Fund (DSK) if tobacco companies, e-cigarettes and alcohol are involved. This decision was made in accordance with the revision of the Safe Sports Code.
The department's minister, Hannah Yeoh, stressed that if the involvement of these companies is discovered after approval, the relevant activities will also be cancelled.
The minister said after the launch of an anti-smoking campaign jointly organized by Cengild GI Medical Center, the Malaysian Tobacco Control Council, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the Ministry of Health,
"We will never allocate funds for events where these (tobacco, e-cigarettes and alcohol) products are sponsored or used. As the owner of the sports venue company, we also implement the same ban."
In February this year, KBS said it would take proactive measures by improving the Safe Sports Code after reports on social media about a sports event sponsored by an e-cigarette company went viral.
