The Czech Ministry of Health has proposed a ban on the sale of e-cigarettes from next year (2025) in response to a surge in young users. However, critics worry that the ban could lead to an increase in the black market for e-cigarettes and traditional tobacco use.

According to Eurointegration, the Czech Ministry of Health is preparing a bill that, if passed, will ban the sale of e-cigarettes from next year (2025).

The Czech Ministry of Health explained that the proposed ban is in the interest of public health.

Ministry of Health spokesman Jan Režabek pointed out that "the number of e-cigarette users among minors and young people has increased significantly, and in some countries, this number has exceeded adult users."

In addition, the Ministry of Health cited research that young people who start using e-cigarettes are three times more likely to smoke traditional cigarettes in the future.

A nationwide survey on alcohol and tobacco product consumption in the Czech Republic in 2023 showed that young people aged 15-24 are the main consumers of e-cigarettes, accounting for almost a third of all e-cigarette users, compared with 25% two years ago.

However, critics of the ban believe that the Ministry of Health has not done enough research on the health effects of e-cigarettes. They point out that the ban may only lead users to turn to traditional tobacco products and give rise to a black market for e-cigarettes.

Critics suggest that the Ministry of Health should increase penalties for selling e-cigarettes to minors and restrict product designs to make them less visually appealing.
