Vaper's Tongue: What Causes It And How To Fix It

Have you ever noticed that your favorite e-juice tastes a little "off" or you literally can't taste it anymore? The problem may not be your vape—it could be a common phenomenon known as "vaping tongue." Don't worry. Vaper's tongue is not serious or permanent, and there are many easy ways to heal it.

What is a vaper's tongue?

If you have a vaper's tongue, you're likely to experience less enjoyment from your daily vape sessions because it's harder for you to discover the flavors you usually like. E-cigarette users' tongues vary from slightly tasteless to completely tasteless, even when eating or drinking. Possible causes include:

a.Too many good things. You might just run out of your favorite e-liquid. Seasoned vapers know that vaping the same juice day after day can make your taste buds feel a little too familiar.

b.Aged smoke oil. The problem might not be your tongue at all—it could be your sap itself. If your e-juice has been sitting around for too long, especially in the wrong plastic or a clear container exposed to sunlight, it may have started to degrade and its taste will be the first casualty.

c.Damaged taste buds. Have you ever bitten into something that was too hot and couldn't taste it all day? If this happens, you won't be able to taste e-juice either.

d.The common cold, medications, dehydration. Sometimes, medical conditions can also prevent your taste buds from working properly. Once the illness or condition passes, your taste buds will return to normal while you enjoy vaping.

How can I heal my vaper's tongue?

Getting through the vaper's tongue and restoring normal taste is usually a matter of correcting whatever simple problem is causing the problem. If you're not sure exactly what the root problem is, here are some things to try.

a.Try a new flavor. You can cure most vaping tongue (or prevent it in the first place) by avoiding using the same e-liquid all the time. Instead, try a variety of flavors and change them often, perhaps rotating through your favorite options.

b.Switch to a higher VG e-liquid. E-liquids have different PG/VG ratios. Many vapers prefer certain ratios to others. E-liquids with a higher ratio of VG to PG can also reduce dryness in your throat and may help improve the vaper's tongue.

c.Drink lots of water. Water accomplishes many different and important things in your body. Not only will it keep you hydrated with zero calories, but it will also help clear any lingering flavors from your taste buds and prepare your tongue for a fresh vape.

d.Reset your taste buds. Have you ever been to a perfume shop where they offer coffee beans to sniff between perfume samples to "reset" your nose? Give it a try—or try sucking on a lemon, another method rumored to be effective in clearing the palate.

By the way, these recommendations don't just apply to those with vaping tongues. If you haven't run into this problem yet, practicing the techniques above—especially changing flavors and staying hydrated—may help you avoid it altogether. If you do notice that your favorite flavors seem to be fading, act now so you can get back to enjoying vaping in no time.
