The World Vapers' Alliance protested in front of the World Health Organization, calling for the recognition of products such as e-cigarettes as effective harm reduction tools. The group urged the WHO to support alternative nicotine products to achieve a smoke-free future.

According to a recent report by the World Vapers Alliance, the World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) held a protest in front of the World Health Organization in Geneva on World Vaping Day.

Participants in the event urged the global health agency to listen to consumers and recognize that scientific evidence supports e-cigarettes, nicotine bags and similar products as effective harm reduction tools.

The group said they were concerned about the rampant "misunderstanding epidemic" surrounding tobacco harm reduction, saying that this misunderstanding was caused by misleading information and prevented millions of people from turning to scientifically proven less harmful alternatives.

WVA Director Michael Landl said in a statement,

"WHO has turned World No Tobacco Day into an advocacy day. Sweden is on the verge of becoming smoke-free thanks to alternative nicotine products. WHO needs to stop suppressing alternative nicotine products and start supporting them as the key to a smoke-free future. WHO's false statements are fueling a deadly epidemic of misunderstanding. Smokers deserve to know the truth: vaping is far less harmful to health than smoking. Accurate knowledge can save millions of lives."
