Swiss Green Party MPs propose ban on sale of disposable e-cigarettes, which has been implemented in many European countries

Swiss MPs have proposed a ban on disposable e-cigarettes, pointing out that previous bills banning the sale of e-cigarettes to minors have not worked. At present, the Swiss National Council has passed the relevant motion, and the Federal Council will discuss the relevant bill to ban the sale of e-cigarettes in March.
According to RTS on January 11, recently, Swiss Green Party MP Louise Trottet and Raphaël Dunand from the Movement for Freedom and Social Justice co-authored a proposal to ban disposable e-cigarettes.
They pointed out that the nicotine content of these products sometimes exceeds the standard and may contain heavy metals. In addition, due to improper recycling, their discarded lithium batteries may cause fires.
According to a study by Unisanté, nearly two-thirds of young people aged 13 to 25 have used e-cigarettes.
In 2020, the Geneva Grand Council unanimously passed a bill banning the sale of e-cigarettes to minors; in 2024, the Swiss National Council has passed a motion to ban the use of e-cigarettes, and the Federal Council will discuss the matter in March 2025.
Louise is unwilling to wait for the authorities to act. She said that "the states could act more quickly" and that at the European level, France and Belgium have already banned the sale of disposable e-cigarettes.
