Australia Sees Its First Case Of E-cigarette Liquid Being Found To Contain Drugs; The Involved Man Has Been Arrested.

According to the Racgp news on August 7th: A 20-year-old man from New South Wales (NSW) was charged with allegedly selling e-liquid containing synthetic opioids known as "nitazenes"; this is the first time in Australia that someone has been prosecuted for "drug e-cigarettes".
Police investigation results: Time frame: March to July 2025;
Location: The police conducted a surprise raid on a residence in Revesby, Sydney, and discovered electronic devices, e-cigarette accessories, small bottles, and 7,180 Australian dollars in cash;
Subsequent discovery: One week later, a locked safe was opened and 1.8 kilograms of nitazenes were seized. The investigation also resulted in a total seizure of 2.1 kilograms;
Sales method: It was sold under the name "Super Enhanced Version", belonging to an organized illegal drug distribution network.
Official response: John Watson, the head of the Drug and Firearms Unit, said: "This is a worrying incident... The addition of synthetic opioids is a deliberate act to create dependence and make a profit." He pointed out: "This case marks a new trend in illegal drug trade. The police will continuously upgrade their crackdown measures."
Regarding "Nitazenes", it is a highly lethal illegal synthetic opioid substance, with toxicity possibly far exceeding heroin or fentanyl;
From January 2024 to March 2025, the Australian Federal Police seized 8 batches of imported nitazenes at the border;
Previously, it was also found in counterfeit painkillers in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory.
