According to a report by Reddit media on August 26th: The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in the United States recently sent a letter to the US Attorney General, requesting that the Department of Justice provide a brief report to the committee regarding the issue of illegal Chinese e-cigarette products flooding the US market as soon as possible.
The chairman of the committee, Republican Representative James Comer from Kentucky, said: "He is continuing to investigate the unregulated and illegal electronic cigarette products flooding the US market, which are mainly sourced from China."
On August 22nd, Comer wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi, in his letter he said: "Due to the fact that many e-cigarette products lack the marketing authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), illegal products from China routinely evade the inspection of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the entry ports... Although the usage rate of e-cigarettes among American teenagers has been continuously declining, our teenagers still find themselves consuming illegal products sold in fruit flavors, and the top three brands are all from China."
Congressman Comer wrote in this letter: "The fact that Chinese brands are illegally selling these products in the US market concerns national security."
"These illegal Chinese products lack supervision and public health safety checks. They not only pose a threat to the safety of American people, but also provide a large amount of funds for Chinese enterprises..."
This committee urges the Department of Justice to continue to treat this key issue as a priority."
To assist the committee's investigation, Comer requested that the Department of Justice arrange a briefing at the staff level as soon as possible by September 5th, in order to understand the measures the Department of Justice has taken and is currently taking to prevent illegal Chinese e-cigarette products, as well as the plans of the Department of Justice on how to further curb these products.
