Representatives from several German states support the ban on disposable e-cigarettes and will discuss legislation in December

Representatives from several German states support amending the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act to restrict the use of disposable e-cigarettes. Members will discuss this in December and vote in favor of a national ban.

According to Residuos Profesional on December 12, most representatives from the German federal states recently expressed support for amending the relevant amendments to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) to restrict the use of disposable e-cigarettes.

The ban has been supported by the Federal Association of Waste Management, Water and Recycling Industries (BDE) in Germany, as well as health associations and non-governmental organizations. BDE President Anja Siegesmund said that the decision of the Federal Senate was "long needed." She pointed out that disposable e-cigarettes, as a one-time product, quickly become garbage after use, which will cause environmental pollution and even accidents. She advocated that the government ban disposable e-cigarettes as soon as possible.

However, the current proposal to completely ban disposable e-cigarettes needs to be debated in the German Bundestag and passed by a majority vote, including the amendment proposed by the Federal Senate.

"The EEA Act alone cannot solve the significant problem of battery fires in the waste disposal industry, but it is a first step in the right direction. Members of the German Bundestag should therefore discuss this in December and vote in favour of a nationwide ban," said Sigismund.
