Philippines Department of Trade and Industry: 10 e-cigarette companies have registered with DTI

菲律宾贸工部:10家电子烟公司已在DTI注册

The Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines said that about 10 e-cigarette companies have completed registration in accordance with the new standards, and products that have not been certified will be banned from being sold in the market from January 2025.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on December 25, Maria Cristina Roque, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said at a press conference that about 10 companies engaged in the production, distribution and sale of e-cigarette products have registered with the department. These certified e-cigarette companies have followed the standards set by the Office of Special Mission for Atomized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products (OSMV).

On June 5, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) required the certification and registration of e-cigarette products and planned to implement product standards from January 2025. This means that e-cigarette products that do not obtain the Philippine Standard (PS) mark and do not hold the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) label are not allowed to be sold in the local market.

Roque pointed out that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) hopes that these manufacturers will follow regulations to ensure that their products meet the standards and complete registration. She added that most of the currently registered e-cigarette products are imported goods.

Under Act No. 11900 of the Republic of the Philippines, the E-Cigarette Act, manufacturers and importers of heated tobacco products (HTP) consumables, HTP devices, e-cigarette product refills, e-cigarette devices and new tobacco products are required to register with the DTI to ensure that these products meet the standards set by the government. Only products that are registered, meet DTI standards, and are accompanied by necessary health warnings can be sold, advertised or distributed. Products that fail to comply with regulations may face immediate recall, ban or seizure.

Previously, the DTI had announced on its official website the nine brands that hold Philippine Standard (PS) licenses: DON BARS, KLIQ, ONE BAR, PHANTOM VAPE, RELX, TOMORO, TRUEZ, VAGEND and X-VAPE. (The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry criticized FLARE and SHFT for false advertising and announced a list of nine legal brands)
