Peru's new law: Electronic cigarettes are included in regulatory scope for the first time, and their use is prohibited in public places

The Peruvian Congress has issued a new law to regulate electronic cigarettes for the first time, banning their use in public places and prohibiting all advertising and promotion of tobacco products. The implementation of this regulation is jointly responsible by multiple institutions such as the Ministry of Health and local governments.
According to a report by Panameracana Televisi ó n on November 12th, the Peruvian Congress has issued Law No. 32159, aimed at implementing a series of measures to "control the consumption of tobacco products, nicotine, or their alternatives, and safeguard life and health". This regulation has revised the previous relevant regulations and for the first time regulated electronic cigarettes.
The law stipulates that smoking or the use of electronic cigarettes is prohibited in health centers, educational institutions, government units, workplaces, enclosed public spaces, and all types of transportation.
The law also prohibits all advertising, promotion, and sponsorship of tobacco products, including those with cross-border dissemination effects.
Finally, the law stipulates that the Ministry of Health, local governments, the National Competition and Intellectual Property Protection Agency (Indecopi), and relevant associations from all sectors of society are responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the new law in accordance with their respective responsibilities.
