Malaysian Health Minister: No need to emulate other countries' e-cigarette bans, focus on implementing new tobacco control laws

The Malaysian Minister of Health stated that Malaysia already has comprehensive tobacco control regulations and does not need to follow the e-cigarette bans of other countries. Instead, it should focus on the implementation and enforcement of its own laws.
According to The Star on October 15th, Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated at a press conference after participating in the "Cik Era Chatbot" event in Kuala Lumpur that Malaysia has comprehensive regulations on smoking and tobacco control, and there is no need to emulate other countries' e-cigarette bans.
When asked if Malaysia should follow Maldives in banning electronic cigarettes, the minister pointed out that Malaysia should focus on the implementation and enforcement of the 2024 Public Health Smoking Products Control Act (Act 852).
We don't need to emulate any country. In the early stages of drafting this legislation, we drew on benchmarks and best practices from around the world. Currently, we have an independent law to regulate smoking products, enforce orders, and implement necessary regulations
You don't have to constantly seek guidance from others, because we already have our own guidance, which is independent, comprehensive, and can solve problems related to smoking control
