Malaysia implements new smoking control regulations: 415 stores fined for violating regulations

Johor, Malaysia has launched a campaign against smoking in accordance with the new tobacco control law. 4275 stores have been inspected and 415 violation notices have been issued, involving violations such as underage smoking and illegal sale of cigarettes.

 

According to Utusan on November 1st, the health department of Johor, Malaysia has inspected 4275 stores and issued 415 violation notices since the implementation of the Public Health Tobacco Control Products Act 2024 (Act 852).

 

Ling Tian Soon, the chairman of the state Health and Environment Commission, stated that 403 of the notices involved violations of smoking in non-smoking areas. In addition, there are 9 notices regarding the illegal act of underage smoking, two cases involving shop owners encouraging smoking, and one case of selling cigarettes to underage buyers.

 

Lin Tianshun pointed out that cigarette sellers and store owners must comply with the regulations of the Ministry of Health within six months, install closed cabinets to avoid public display of cigarettes, and strictly follow the requirements of non-public promotion.
