Jordan Customs Operation: 10 tons of expired tobacco and 10,000 illegal e-cigarettes seized

Jordanian customs seized 10 tons of expired tobacco, 60,000 packs of e-cigarette oil and more than 10,000 illegal e-cigarettes, many of which were smuggled into Jordan. Customs is currently tracking down illegal production and sales points.

According to the Jordanian News Agency Petra on November 26, Jalal Qudah, Director General of the General Administration of Customs of Jordan, announced that customs officers had seized 10 tons of expired and non-compliant tobacco and molasses, 60,000 packs of e-cigarette oil of various specifications and more than 10,000 illegal e-cigarettes.

Qudah said that these items were found in shabby workshops that did not meet basic public safety and hygiene standards. These materials were mixed in an unsafe environment, posing serious health risks and did not meet food and drug safety. Many items were smuggled into the country.

He pointed out that the Customs Intelligence Bureau is actively collecting information on the sales and manufacturing locations of these illegal products, and urged citizens to be cautious when purchasing such products.

Kuda also revealed that there has been a "disturbing" increase in the amount of illegal material in the local market, which prompted them to launch the current operation to track down and shut down illegal production and sales points. He stressed that legally imported materials must be subject to strict legal and regulatory supervision to meet food and drug safety standards.
