Dos And Don'ts Of Vaping Etiquette

Dos and don'ts of vaping etiquette

Whether you're a brand new vaper or a long-time vaper, you probably have lingering questions about when and where you can vape. In the eyes of the law, vaping has always been lumped with smoking when it comes to "smoke-free" initiatives and regulations. Seeing "No Vaping" signs is also becoming more common, but it's still not the norm. This ambiguity can lead to some confusing situations, so let's take a look at some dos and don'ts of vaping etiquette to ensure you can happily smoke your vape mod, e-cigarette, e-pipe, or whatever device you choose yes.

Don't blow steam in people's faces

Especially when vaping around non-vapers or non-smokers — but even around other vapers — remember that people tend to take their personal space seriously. What you find delicious when you enter the door may be very unpleasant to bystanders when you go out. Many people are sensitive to fragrance or concerned (whether true or not) about the safety of second-hand vapor. So, keep your clouds away from people's faces.

Be sure to do mod maintenance at home.

If you must perform emergency maintenance in a public place or in someone else's home, do it in the bathroom or over a utility sink if possible (even outside). You don't want to risk staining someone else's couch or car seat with a replacement coil. The same rules apply when filling the tank. Make sure there is no risk of spilling e-liquid in important places. Try refilling the tank over the sink and washing any vape juice off your hands when you're done.

Don't use other people's devices without asking

This might sound obvious, but you might be surprised how often a friend just picks up another person's vape to try out. Most people are willing to share their vaping or flavors if asked, but most don't like having their stuff snatched away without warning. Unless you know the person well and know they won't care if you vape them, ask first, and don't argue if they seem uncomfortable with your request.

Be sure to ask before smoking e-cigarettes around others.

There are plenty of places where you can freely vape without bothering anyone, but you should avoid making assumptions. Anytime you're indoors, in someone's home, or even outside with other people nearby (such as at a concert), it's a good idea to ask those around you if you can vape. Also, you may want to consider not using tobacco-flavored e-juice when vaping in public, as this may fool some people into thinking you are actually smoking.

don't evangelize.

If anyone shows curiosity or asks a question about your vape mod or e-cigarette or vaping in general, then of course you should feel free to share what you know. However, do not unsolicitedly preach the advantages of vaping over smoking or the general pleasures of vaping to friends or strangers. Sharing knowledge is great, but let curious people come to you. When they do, be sure to convey factual information as well as your personal experience with vaping and, if applicable, how it has helped you quit smoking.

One final tip: don't be elitist. Vapers already get enough grief from the rest of the world — and they don't need judgment from within the community either. Never shame someone who doesn't understand fancy mods, who doesn't vape regularly, who only smokes the lowest nicotine levels, or anyone else. The world of vaping is big enough for everyone — and their every preference — to enjoy.
