Switzerland Has Banned The Sale Of Disposable Electronic Cigarettes.

On June 4th, the Swiss Senate passed a bill prohibiting the sale of disposable electronic cigarettes. Members of the People's Party and most of the center-right radical liberal party opposed the bill, but it was ultimately passed with 19 votes in favor and 11 against. The bill was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in 2024.
The Federal Council initially opposed this motion and refused any ban that might create technical trade barriers. Right-wing Swiss People's Party member Hans-Jürgen German said that Switzerland should not act alone and called for pragmatism, noting that the EU does not ban such products.
However, Health Minister Elisabeth Baum-Schneider accepted this decision and said she was aware of the issue. European countries such as France and the United Kingdom have taken measures, and the Valais and Jura cantons in Switzerland have also taken similar measures. The minister acknowledged that other measures proposed by the government, such as reducing the attractiveness of tax incentives or raising tax rates, would not have the same effect.
