British American Tobacco Holds A Seminar To Guide Merchants in Responding To The Ban, Emphasizing The Three R For Identifying Legal Devices

According to BetterRetailing's report on May 21st, as the one-time e-cigarette ban that is set to take effect on June 1st approaches, British American Tobacco reminds stores to take additional measures to ensure their products comply with the regulations. The company's corporate and regulatory affairs director, Sam Millicheap, and the customer deployment director, Mustafa Zaidi, held a webinar with nearly 50 store owners to discuss compliance issues.
In response to the store owners' confusion about which products will continue to be legally sold, the webinar suggested checking the "three R" standards for compliance: refillable (using e-liquid or cartridges), rechargeable (with a charging port on the device), and replaceable (with replaceable coils).
Millicheap pointed out that the requirement for replaceable coils is the most likely place for store owners to make mistakes. The coils should be built into the replaceable cartridges or be replaceable individually. Many mainstream brands' devices, although rechargeable and refillable, will be banned from sale starting from June 1st because of the non-replaceable coils.
Regarding how to check if a product is compliant, Millicheap suggested asking the supplier representatives about the equipment and its required replacement parts, or opening the product packaging for a careful inspection. Another participant in the webinar, Jack Courtez, noted that although some brands have launched similar compliant and non-compliant products, they can be distinguished by different barcodes.
