Trump said in a statement, "The FDA has lost the trust of the American people and has deviated from its primary goal as a regulatory agency. The agency needs Dr. Marty Makary, a highly respected Johns Hopkins University surgical oncologist and health policy expert, to help the agency correct its direction and refocus."

The Chinese version of the statement was translated by two supremes as follows:

I am very pleased to nominate Dr. Marty Makary (MD, MPH, FASC) as FDA Commissioner. The FDA has lost the trust of the American people and has deviated from its primary goal as a regulatory agency. The agency needs Dr. Marty Makary, a highly respected Johns Hopkins University surgical oncologist and health policy expert, to help the agency correct its direction and refocus. He will evaluate issues affecting our food supply, toxic chemicals, and drugs and biologics provided to younger generations under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., so that we can finally solve the epidemic of chronic diseases in children.

A member of the prestigious National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Makary has dedicated his life to improving the quality of healthcare and reducing hospital and drug costs for all Americans. In addition, Dr. Makary is a distinguished professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Business School and a leading advocate for healthcare transparency. He has published more than 300 scientific articles and three books on healthcare that have made the New York Times bestseller list.

Dr. Makary is a pioneer in public health, cancer care, and surgery, and has long been a voice for the underprivileged. He has received the National Pancreas Foundation's Noble Award for Science and numerous teaching awards. Dr. Makary currently leads the Evidence-Based Medicine and Public Policy Research Group at Johns Hopkins University.

I believe that Dr. Makary will use his lifelong career dedicated to providing high-quality, low-cost healthcare to restore the FDA's status as the gold standard for scientific research and streamline the agency's cumbersome administrative procedures to ensure that the American people receive the medical cures and treatments they deserve.

According to the Johns Hopkins website, Makary is a surgeon and public policy researcher at Johns Hopkins University. He has written for The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, is the author of two New York Times bestsellers, Irresponsible and The Price We Pay, has led the World Health Organization's Patient Safety Program, and has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

He is also the director of islet transplant surgery at Johns Hopkins University, has won the "Science Nobel Prize" awarded by the National Pancreas Foundation, and has served as a visiting professor at more than 25 medical schools. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific articles and served on several editorial boards.
