Thailand Customs cracks down on e-cigarette products: importers will face double fines

Thailand's customs department said on Saturday (4th) that it will impose a fine on e-cigarette importers of twice the value of the items plus taxes to prevent further sales to the public, especially teenagers.
[Two supreme news] According to the Bangkok Post report on May 5, Thailand's customs department will impose a fine on e-cigarette importers, with the fine amount being twice the value of the item plus tax, to deter the public (especially teenagers) from further sales.

 

Customs department spokesman Panthong Loykulnan said on Saturday (4th) that importers of e-cigarettes, shisha or e-shisha will now need to pay fines, duties and value-added tax equal to twice the listed price of the goods. . Additionally, all seized items will be treated in the same manner as other items subject to import restrictions, such as alcohol, cigarettes, and other copyright-infringing items.


The spokesman said the measure was introduced against the backdrop of the rapid spread of e-cigarettes among teenagers and students.

 

Recently, two e-cigarette-related cases were reported in Sisaket and Rayong cities.

 

Authorities raided a store in the city of Sisaket and seized 4,300 vaping devices, with those involved ordered to pay four times the price of the seized items, or about 2 million baht ($54,472). In Rayong City, two suspects were arrested for illegally selling e-cigarettes, and authorities also seized e-cigarette equipment and an order list.
