Study: Smoking rate drops in Switzerland, e-cigarette use among youth reaches 17%

Swiss Federal Statistical Office research data shows that Switzerland's smoking rate has declined, while e-cigarette users among young people (15-24 years old) have increased.
According to Landbote recently reported, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday (2nd) that from 2017 to 2022, the proportion of smokers in Switzerland has decreased, and 24% of the population aged 15 and above still smoke.
According to the definition of the statistical office, e-cigarettes are not included in the category of "smoking". In 2022, e-cigarette users among young people (15-24 years old) accounted for 17%.
In addition to e-cigarettes, hookahs or chewing tobacco (Snus) are also popular among young people who want to imitate "smoking" behavior.
In addition, the difference between genders has narrowed, with the proportion of male smokers falling from 37% to 27%. The proportion of female smokers has also dropped from a quarter to a fifth. However, a survey found that the proportion of female smokers over 65 years old has increased.
