16 Questions About E-cigarette Oil: Do You Really Understand It?

1.

Why do electronic cigarettes have a smell of cotton or burnt tobacco?

After refilling the tank of an electronic cigarette with oil, if you start vaping immediately after refilling, you might smell a cotton-like or burnt smell. This is not necessarily a problem with the oil itself. After refilling, consumers should wait for 3 to 5 minutes for the oil to fully moisten the wick inside the atomizer core before vaping. Generally, this smell should disappear. However, for refillable cigarettes, due to their shorter lifespan, if you refill the tank 4 to 5 times repeatedly, you might notice that the atomizer core develops a strange smell. This could be caused by the wick turning yellow or the heating wire accumulating carbon deposits. We should remind ourselves to replace the new refillable cartridge. Currently, when refilling the atomizer core with normal oil and vaping for 10 to 15 ml, there should be no problem. Some foreign or domestic oils might not match the current atomizer cartridge, and the smell during vaping might change.

2. Why does smoking electronic cigarettes cause dry mouth?

This is perfectly normal! The glycerol (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) in the e-liquid are both "water-absorbing champs". They will suck away all the moisture in your mouth, making you feel parched and dry. But don't worry, drinking more water can help relieve the problem. Also, it's possible that each time you inhale the e-liquid through your mouth, the amount of e-liquid you inhale is slightly less than the amount that evaporates with each puff. This may also make you feel a bit dry. You can either enlarge the oil intake hole of the atomizer core or reduce the thickness of the oil-conducting cotton to make it more moist. You can also fine-tune the e-liquid. The pores of the oil-conducting cotton and the molecular structure of the e-liquid also affect the capillary action and the oil-conducting effect.

3. What is oil-washing? Why do we need to do oil-washing?

The e-liquid is not a simple liquid. It is composed of various high-molecular complex chemical substances, including both oily and water-based components. Although their densities are similar, they still separate, just like oil and water. The "oil separation elimination" process carried out by the factory when preparing the e-liquid aims to allow these components to fully blend and achieve a balanced state. It's similar to how the scent of a perfume becomes more pleasant after being left for some time after purchase.

4. Is it difficult for you to mix your own e-liquid?

In fact, DIY e-liquid is not that difficult. Just select the right materials such as PG, VG, flavoring, sweeteners, coolant, etc., and mix them according to the formula. However, the key is to choose the right raw materials. Try to find suppliers with certification qualifications. Don't buy low-quality ones just to save money. After all, this is something that goes into the lungs. DIY e-liquid is generally not something that individual consumers can do. There are specialized regulatory channels for e-liquid ingredients in China.

5. Why is it necessary to shake the device before injecting the e-liquid?

Because e-cigarette oil consists of various components, there is concern that the oil may stratify or the viscosity at the top and bottom may change, and the substances may not fully blend. Therefore, it is scientifically sound to shake the oil before injecting it and then inject it.

6. What should I do if the e-liquid is too sweet and too thick?

If you think the e-liquid is too sweet or too greasy, if the flavoring agent and flavoring are added in excessive amounts, you can dilute the taste by adding some PG or VG to the purchased e-liquid or by yourself. If the e-liquid is in the blending stage, you can ask the flavoring master to optimize it.

7. What is the sensation of throat vibration?

This is like when you take a puff of a cigarette, your throat will feel a bit irritated. The throat irritation sensation of an e-cigarette is similar, but much milder. The higher the nicotine content, the stronger the throat irritation sensation will be, but the greater the irritation as well. For products that are inhaled into the lungs, the nicotine content should be low, generally ranging from 3 to 6 mg/ml. For products that are inhaled through the mouth, the nicotine content should be higher. In Europe, it is generally not more than 10-20 mg/ml, while in the United States, it ranges from 15 to 50 mg/ml. Generally speaking, the better the burst force of the equipment, the lower the nicotine content should be. If the burst force of the equipment is weaker, the nicotine content can be appropriately increased.

8. What's the reason for feeling dizzy after using electronic cigarettes?

Don't panic. This might be because your tolerance to nicotine is low. Heavy smokers who have been smoking for a long time may have better tolerance. People who don't smoke frequently have poorer tolerance. Try switching to cigarettes with lower nicotine content or nicotine-free e-liquids. If you still feel dizzy, then stop smoking. Health is the most important thing. Or control the number of puffs you take.

9. Is it better to keep the e-liquid for a longer time?

That's not necessarily true! Some bottled e-liquids lose their flavor over time, so it's better to finish them up as soon as you open them. Disposable electronic cigarettes have oil-soaked cotton inside, and it's best to store them for 1 to 6 months. If stored for too long, the e-liquid will darken in color and the taste will be compromised.

10. Why do the tastes of e-liquids vary when they are used in different vaporizers?

Different atomizing devices vary in output power, atomizing core, air passage, resistance, sealing performance, mouthpiece design, and oil guide cotton, etc. If the same type of e-liquid is injected into different devices, the smoking sensation will be different. If it is an e-cigarette production factory, it needs to be mixed with the right e-liquid from the oil factory to suit the devices, and try to make it as good as possible for smoking.

11. Do I need to clean the oil tank when changing the oil?

If you want to change the flavor of the POD open-type e-cigarette, you can soak the e-cigarette in a PG/VG: 5:5 mixed solution to wash it out and remove the remaining oil to prevent cross-flavoring. Then, replace with the preferred e-liquid. The first few puffs may not be smooth, but they will get better later. Alternatively, you can control the remaining oil from the previous flavor e-liquid and add the new flavor e-liquid. The first few puffs might have cross-flavoring, but it will be better after you puff a few more times. For those who don't like cross-flavoring, you can replace the current e-cigarette with a new one and refill it with new e-liquid.

12. What materials are the e-cigarette oil tanks made of? Are they environmentally friendly?

The cartridges for electronic cigarettes are usually made from medical-grade PCTG and PETG raw materials. These materials are also used in plastic cups and baby bottles. If the material of the cartridge is not environmentally friendly, it may react chemically with the e-liquid, crack or be detrimental to health. Consumers should be vigilant about electronic cigarettes produced by small workshops, which may use recycled materials, inferior brands or non-medical-grade raw materials.

13. How many kinds of nicotine are there? What are the differences among them?

Paper cigarettes contain natural nicotine, while electronic cigarettes usually have synthetic nicotine. Some electronic cigarettes have no nicotine at all, but they still have a throat hit, which might be due to the addition of other substances.

14. What is a smoke-free electronic cigarette?

A certain brand claims externally: In the light inhalation mode, it can bring a rich and mellow taste; in the deep inhalation mode, it achieves a completely smoke-free design to meet different scenarios. This is a problem related to the formula of the e-liquid factory, not something high-tech. It appeared several years ago to solve the problem of not allowing e-cigarette smoking in public places. Just because there is no smoke when inhaling deeply, it doesn't mean that the e-liquid is healthier than that with smoke.

15. Differences between domestic and foreign e-liquids

The smoke oil produced abroad can be either natural or extracted from plants, or synthetic. Most of the smoke oil in China is synthetic. Some domestic companies have also hired relevant researchers to extract plant essences and other substances, and are actively laying out related patents.

16. What's the deal with "top-level" electronic cigarettes?

"Top-grade electronic cigarettes" mainly contain synthetic cannabinoids and etomidate and other illegal and harmful ingredients in their e-liquids. These ingredients have extremely high addictive potential and harmful effects, and may lead to serious health problems or even pose a threat to life. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the public, especially teenagers, stay away from such products to avoid crossing the legal red line and endangering their own health. The state has been cracking down on and prohibiting them severely. Most of these electronic cigarettes are produced by small workshops. If you discover such electronic cigarettes, please report them immediately.
