Malaysian Health Minister: New regulations on tobacco and e-cigarettes will take effect in October

Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that the Public Health Smoking Products Control Act 2024 is expected to be implemented in October, aiming to ban the sale and provision of any smoking-related products and services to minors.

According to Free Malaysia Today on August 17, Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the Public Health Smoking Products Control Act 2024 (Act 852) is expected to be implemented in October.

Dzulkefly said that all regulations and orders under the Act have been approved by the Attorney General's Chambers.

"We are in the final stage. This October, if God blesses, we will implement four regulations and one order approved by the Attorney General's Chambers."

"We have postponed the implementation once and hope to implement it in October. Although we originally hoped to start in September, if it is not feasible, October will be the target date."

The bill was enacted on February 2 and previously received royal assent on January 24, aiming to ban the sale and purchase of tobacco products, smoking materials and tobacco substitutes to minors.

It also prohibits providing any smoking-related services to minors.

Currently, nicotine e-cigarette products remain legal for minors under the age of 18 before the implementation of Bill 852.
