The Indonesian government's "Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024" requires tobacco packaging to display health warnings more prominently and strictly restrict tobacco advertising, including warnings prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to those under 21 and pregnant women, and limiting the broadcast time of outdoor media advertising to reduce the impact on minors.

According to Headtopics on August 5, the Indonesian government's "Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024" has made important updates to tobacco packaging design. According to Article 438 of the regulation, tobacco packaging must display health warning images and text more prominently.

Hasbullah, a representative of the Tobacco Control Committee, agreed with this. He said in an interview in Jakarta on August 3,

"We are positive about this change because we have been waiting for four years. From now on, the age limit for buying cigarettes is 21 years old, which is a good progress."

In addition, the regulation also stipulates that outdoor media advertisements such as video advertisements can only be broadcast between 10 pm and 5 am local time. The measure aims to reduce the impact of tobacco advertising on the public, especially minors and teenagers.

Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024 strictly regulates the advertising of tobacco and e-cigarette products. According to the regulation, all tobacco advertisements must be accompanied by a warning that "sales and supply to persons under 21 years of age and pregnant women are prohibited." In addition, advertisements are prohibited from targeting children, teenagers and pregnant women, and cartoon or animated characters are not allowed to be used as advertising characters.

It is reported that the law was signed into law by Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently.
