How to know if a battery in my vape is dead?

Knowing whether your vape battery is dead depends on the type of device you have. Here's how to tell for disposables, rechargeable pod systems, and mods.
🔋 For Disposable Vapes
Most disposables are non‑rechargeable (though some have a USB port). Signs the battery is dead:
No LED light when you inhale – this is the clearest sign.
LED flashes rapidly (usually 3–10 times) when you try to draw – indicates low or dead battery.
Weak or no vapor even though you know there's still liquid inside.
If it has a charging port, plugging it in and getting no charging light after 10–15 minutes usually means the internal battery has failed.
⚠️ If it's a non‑rechargeable disposable and you get no response, the battery is dead – do not attempt to open or recharge it.
🔋 For Rechargeable Pod Systems & Mods
These have replaceable or built‑in batteries. A dead battery typically shows:
No response when pressing the fire button – screen stays off, no LED.
The device flashes a low‑battery warning – often the LED blinks 10–20 times, or the screen shows "Low Battery" or a battery icon with empty bars.
It won't turn on – even after clicking the fire button 5 times (the usual power lock/unlock sequence).
It charges but dies almost immediately – the battery no longer holds a charge; this indicates the battery has reached the end of its life.
The device feels hot or swells – stop using immediately and dispose of it safely (this is a failing battery, not just "dead").
🧪 How to Test
Charge it properly – Use a known‑good cable and charger. If after 30–60 minutes it still won't fire or show any sign of life, the battery is likely dead.
Try a different pod/atomizer – Sometimes a bad coil can mimic a dead battery. If a fresh coil still doesn't work, the battery is the issue.
Check for physical damage – Leaking, corrosion around contacts, or a swollen casing all mean the battery is dead and unsafe.
✅ When to Replace
Disposable – No light, no vapor → replace the whole device.
Built‑in battery pod system – If it no longer holds a charge or won't power on after troubleshooting → replace the device.
Mod with external battery – Remove the battery and test it in an external charger. If it won't charge or the mod doesn't recognize it, replace the battery.
If you're unsure whether your device is truly dead or just having another issue, try the troubleshooting steps from previous answers (clearing airflow, checking connections, etc.). But if all signs point to battery failure, it's time for a replacement.
