German customs seized more than 10,000 untaxed e-cigarettes worth nearly 2 million euros

In a search operation conducted by the Frankfurt Customs in Hesse, Germany, 10,700 untaxed e-cigarettes that entered the German market without approval were seized, and two suspects were arrested.
According to Epochtimes on June 24, the Frankfurt Customs Investigation Department of Germany found a large number of suspected counterfeit goods during searches in the cities of Dreich and Langen in Hesse.
During the search, investigators found 36 pallets of suspected counterfeit brand-name clothing, three pallets of health medicines, more than 1,000 boxes of untaxed and suspected counterfeit cigarettes, and 10,700 untaxed e-cigarettes that entered the German market without approval.
The police arrested two suspects, aged 42 and 58, in a search conducted on June 12. Among them, the 42-year-old suspect tried to escape but failed. Both have been detained and prosecuted.
They are accused of suspected smuggling and tobacco trading, illegal trading of firearms, and violating the Trademark and Drug Act.
According to investigators, three trucks were needed to transport the smuggled goods. In addition, six vehicles were seized.
Assets worth more than 1.6 million euros were frozen. Authorities are currently checking the authenticity of the seized clothing, tobacco and medicines.
