The French Public Health Service pointed out that the proportion of daily smokers in the country has dropped to the lowest in 15 years, to 23%, and the use of e-cigarettes has increased, with the proportion of the population using e-cigarettes every day being 6%.

According to a report by RTL on November 20, the number of regular smokers in France hit a 15-year low.

The French Public Health Agency (Santé Publique France) pointed out that 23% of French people currently smoke every day, which has dropped significantly from 25% in 2021 and 29% in 2016.

Dr. Emmanuel Ricard, spokesman for the French Alliance Against Cancer, said,

"This is the first time that we see less than a quarter of people smoking every day. This is a very motivational and important figure for us. Tobacco is France's number one killer and a major cause of chronic diseases."

The French Alliance Against Cancer noted that cigarette sales fell by 14% between 2021 and 2023, while the number of e-cigarette users increased. Currently, 6% of the population use e-cigarettes every day, compared with only 3% eight years ago.
