Due to the decrease in smoking demand in Europe, Philip Morris International will close two factories in Germany

Due to the decrease in smoking population in Europe, PMI plans to gradually close two tobacco factories in Germany by 2025 and has stated that this trend will continue in the coming years.
According to La Nacion on October 29th, PMI announced plans to close its two factories in Berlin and Dresden, Germany, due to a decrease in smoking population in Europe.
According to a spokesperson for the company, the factory closure will affect 372 employees, including 98 at the Berlin factory and 274 at the Dresden factory.
We plan to negotiate with the union and members of the corporate committee in order to reach a fair and socially acceptable solution
The tobacco processing plant located in Berlin is planned to close in the first half of 2025. The cigarette production plant in Dresden will be closed by mid-2025.
The company explained that due to the significant decline in cigarette demand in Europe in recent years, this trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
If these two factories are closed as planned next year, there will be no production activities in Germany at that time. However, the headquarters of the German subsidiary located near Munich will continue to operate
