British American Tobacco plans to launch the synthetic nicotine electronic cigarette "Nomad" in South Korea at the end of November, with a capacity of 10 milliliters and a price of $12. The political arena is calling for filling the relevant regulatory loopholes.

According to N On November 11th, News reported that British American Tobacco (BAT) plans to launch the synthetic nicotine e-cigarette "Nomad" in South Korea by the end of this month.

According to news from the circulation industry on the 11th, BAT's Korean subsidiary will launch an electronic cigarette called "Nomad" that uses synthetic nicotine, with a capacity of 10 milliliters and a consumer price of 17000 Korean won ($12).

It is reported that BAT chose to launch synthetic nicotine e-cigarettes in South Korea because it has not yet been defined as "tobacco" in South Korea. According to current tobacco laws, only products containing tobacco leaves as raw materials are considered tobacco. Therefore, synthetic nicotine electronic cigarettes do not meet this definition and do not need to pay taxes or surcharges, so their selling price can be lower than traditional tobacco or HTP products. Synthetic nicotine e-cigarettes can be sold online, so the actual purchase price for consumers may be lower than the official retail price. In addition, there are no penalty regulations for the sale of such products to teenagers, and there is no need to attach warning signs and pictures like regular tobacco.

The South Korean National Assembly is calling for the rapid development of relevant regulatory measures. From July to October this year, nine legal amendments regarding synthetic nicotine tobacco were proposed.

Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yoon stated that research by the Department of Health and Welfare shows that synthetic nicotine e-cigarettes have the same harmful effects as regular tobacco, including carcinogens and reproductive toxicity. He pointed out that as synthetic nicotine is not currently covered by relevant laws, these products are not restricted by current tobacco regulations.

Han Ji ah, a member of the National Power Party, also pointed out that "although they are considered tobacco in reality, they are not tobacco in law
