Brazilian tax authorities seized 5.6 tons of illegal e-cigarettes worth $800,000

Brazil's tax authorities seized 5.6 tons of illegal e-cigarettes worth $800,000, and the shipment was detained due to inconsistent documentation.
Recently, the Brazilian Federal Taxation Agency (Receita Federal) issued an announcement that the authorities seized a batch of e-cigarettes weighing 5.6 tons at the cargo warehouse of Guarulhos International Airport (Aeroporto Internacional de Guarulhos). A total of 43,200 devices were seized, with a market value of more than 5 million reais (800,000 US dollars).
The shipment was identified and detained during transit in order to issue official documentation of the violation.
The action was carried out by the Customs Risk Management Service (Serad) of the Federal Revenue and Customs of Guarulhos. During the risk analysis process, law enforcement officers found inconsistencies in the documentation of the shipment, and after further inspection, confirmed that the product was in violation and seized.
Since 2009, the import, sale and advertising of e-cigarettes have been banned in Brazil by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
