Brazil cracked the largest e-cigarette smuggling case in 2024, seizing nearly 130,000 products

Brazilian police seized 129,000 smuggled e-cigarettes during a highway inspection in Paraná state, involving e-cigarette brands GEEK VAPE, VAPORESSO, etc. This is the largest number of e-cigarette smuggling cases seized in the country in 2024, and the driver was arrested and faces smuggling charges.
According to Canal 38 on July 24, the Brazilian Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized 129,000 e-cigarettes during an inspection operation in Vitorino, a southwestern city in Paraná state, involving e-cigarette brands GEEK VAPE, VAPORESSO, etc. This is the largest number of e-cigarette smuggling cases seized in Brazil throughout the year in 2024.
The goods were transported by a truck. When the truck driver was stopped by the police, the 30-year-old driver claimed that there was no cargo on the truck. However, during the search, the police found these e-cigarette products that have been banned in Brazil since 2009.

The driver will be charged with smuggling and sent to the Federal Police Department in Guarapuava, Paraná state, where the vehicle and goods were also seized.
During questioning, the driver claimed that he loaded the goods in Céu Azul in the west and then transported them to Pato Branco.
According to the PRF, Paraná state has the highest number of e-cigarette smuggling cases seized in the country.
In May this year, the state seized 100,000 e-cigarettes in Santa Terezinha de Itaipu, which was the second largest case of e-cigarette seizures throughout the year.
It is reported that Paraná state is located in southern Brazil and borders Paraguay. Cross-border smuggling has long existed. Due to the complex geographical conditions and difficult supervision in the border area, smuggling activities are frequent, including e-cigarettes, cigarettes and other contraband. Smuggled items enter the Brazilian market through hidden channels, leading to frequent crackdowns by local law enforcement agencies.
Paraguay's lower commodity tax rates and regulatory standards make it one of the sources of smuggling, and cross-border smuggling activities pose a threat to Brazil's border security and economic order.
