After a year-long ban on e-cigarettes, Hong Kong has officially reopened its doors to the import of these products thanks to China's Dongguan International Air Cargo Terminal. Eight batches of e-cigarettes have already been exported through the terminal, with a total value exceeding RMB 20 million.
The Dongguan terminal is the first e-cigarette transit facility registered with the Hong Kong customs department. As of June 2021, e-cigarettes are allowed to be transported from China to Hong Kong through the terminal and then exported to other countries worldwide. This new regulation presents a newfound opportunity for Chinese e-cigarette manufacturers, particularly in Dongguan, where the industry is valued at nearly RMB 30 billion.
With 109 e-cigarette businesses holding licenses in Dongguan, the market for e-cigarettes is showing immense potential. The terminal has conducted extensive research on the e-cigarette industry, collaborating with relevant authorities to facilitate the import-export process while supporting manufacturers.
The first shipment of e-cigarettes arrived in Hong Kong on July 13, marking a significant growth in the industry. Dongguan's e-cigarette manufacturers can now rely on a cost-effective and efficient air transport channel provided by the air cargo terminal. This move is expected to bolster the industry's growth and support the development of e-cigarette manufacturers in the region.
To assist in the development of the Dongguan e-cigarette industry further, the cargo terminal plans to offer high-quality services to manufacturers, such as flexible, low-cost air transport options. The terminal aims to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the region, promoting job creation and economic development.
The reopening of Hong Kong's market to e-cigarettes through the Dongguan air cargo terminal is a boon to the e-cigarette industry, especially in China. It creates opportunities for manufacturers in the region to expand their markets globally. Despite the stringent regulations imposed globally, including China, the e-cigarette industry shows steady growth, with demand nearly doubling YoY over the last few years.
